South Loop

Directly south of the Loop, the South Loop was historically home to rail yards and printing warehouses. Since then, rigorous redevelopment has replaced the railways and printing presses with new residential developments and converted warehouse lofts. The area’s proximity to Grant Park, Soldier Field, the Museum Campus, and the city center has fueled an influx of new residents along with the restaurants, boutiques, and amenities that serve them. Most of the area south of Congress Parkway and east of the Chicago River is considered the South Loop with the southern boundary ranging from Roosevelt Road to as far south as 18th Street or Cermak Road.
